I was born in London, but grew up mostly in South Wales. I'm the youngest of five children and spent two years living in Germany before finally settling in the Wiltshire area. I have two children and three dogs, including a two-year-old Dachshund and an adorably energetic nine-month-old German Shepherd.
Initially trained as a pharmacy technician, I went on to explore my interest in marine biology prior to finding my calling as a midwife. It's a role I adore, with every life brought in to the world a true blessing. I like to travel, love animals and have something of a soft spot for fizzy cola bottles. I'm a huge Harry Potter geek and like to sit out, under cover, listening to the rain.
I was one of the first in the UK to benefit from intrauterine blood transfusions, developed by the pioneer of fetal medicine Dr Kypros Nicolaides, in the 1980s.
I started my career in London, where I worked closely with a team providing high-risk maternity care. After several years in a richly rewarding but high-pressure role - and following a stint volunteering in Africa - I decided that I would use my knowledge and experiences to help expectant families with a more relaxed, holistic approach. This lead me to join a local homebirth team covering Hampshire, Wiltshire and the surrounding areas. For the last five years I have provided care, both for the NHS and as an independent midwife, for ladies birthing at home and in hospital.
In building relationships with families of every background, it became apparent many actually feared pregnancy (and then birth). Some were fearful due to previous deliveries and/or losses, some from hearing stories from other people and many were completely overwhelmed by medical terminology and the 'pressure' they felt in clinical settings. I am proud to offer a bespoke service, tailored to an individual's needs and situation. My aim is always to enable my clients to feel safe, supported, empowered, confident and knowledgeable about the care they choose, regardless of their circumstances.
